Types of Kitchen Sinks and Its Material To Consider For Your Kitchen

Sinks are an important part of the kitchen. As people start to turn toward aesthetics and specific needs, the purpose of the kitchen sink becomes more than just for washing dishes. There are different types of materials to configurations when picking out a kitchen sink. Another aspect to consider is the sink’s installation, do you prefer something to overmount your counter or installed under the counter.

Whether you frequently cook, do more than dishwashing in your kitchen sink, or want to enhance your kitchen’s aesthetic, here are the types of kitchen sinks and their benefits for you to consider.

Types of Kitchen Sinks
Undermount (or Under the Counter) Sink

Undermount sink or a sink that is installed under the counter is a perfect option if you are aiming for a seamless modern look. The undermount sink also allows for additional counter space as the countertop would go over the rim of the sink. As it is installed under the counter, the undermount sink makes for easy maintenance and cleaning of counter space and working area.

Drop-In Sink

If you are searching for a sink in the market the most common type of sink you would find is most likely going to be the drop-in sink. This type of sink is the easiest to install and can go over any countertop, however, proper support from the counter and professional installation is important to ensure that the sink is installed properly. The drop-in sink has better visibility compared to the undermount as the rim and surface of the sink are completely visible making it easy to clean.

Types of Kitchen Sinks Configuration
Best for compact spaces: Single Bowl

Single-bowl is the most commonly used sink as it is quite compact for those with small spaces and also has a clean look. If the main purpose of the kitchen sink in your home is only for washing dishes, the single bowl is more than enough for your kitchen. If you want to save extra space - when your kitchen sink is not in use - installing a chopping board or other accessories that could go on top of your sink will maximize your kitchen’s working area.

Best for frequent use: Double Bowl

If cooking is something you do daily and you live with more than one or two people in your house, the double bowl might be a great option for you. Cooking frequently may lead to a build-up of dishes and cookware to clean, having a double bowl sink can help minimize the sink being too crowded. Aside from that, a double bowl sink can also help to create two separate spaces for prepping food and cleaning dishes.

Types of Material
Best option: Stainless Steel

The most common sink you can find in the market is made out of stainless steel. It is easy to maintain, clean up, and fits all kinds of budgets. Although stainless steel sinks are one of the most affordable sinks you can find, they are very tough and fit with all kinds of aesthetics and styles of kitchens.

Best aesthetic and durability: Composite

Composite sinks are one of the most durable sinks out there; composite is made out of a mixture of resin with natural stones such as granite and quartz. This specific material sink is usually chosen to create a simple and elegant kitchen. While they are heat and cold resistant, they are extremely heavy compared to other sinks which may require added support for the sink to withstand a long time.

Cheapest option: Aluminum

If you are looking for the cheapest option in the market, the kitchen sink you would find is most likely made of Aluminum. Though they have a cheaper price point, Aluminum sinks are very easy to clean. The material itself is extremely light and strong, unlike stainless steel which is slightly heavy.
